The beginning

The Ten for them project is all about reducing lead contamination in Port Pirie, a serious environmental and health issue that affects both the Smelter and the wider community. The focus of Ten for them is reducing the blood lead levels in Port Pirie's children, which is vital to our children's health, not to mention the future sustainability of the Smelter as well as our community.
The beginning

Although much has been done over the years to reduce lead contamination, by 2006 it was clear that much more needed to be done, and quickly, to ensure a safe and productive future for our city. In recognition of this, the Department of Health, the Port Pirie Regional Council, the Environment Protection Authority and the Smelter agreed to formalise their partnership to lower children's blood lead levels.
That's when the Ten for them project was born.
