Jpps mural unveiling

 In Our Community

December 2016

Last week the John Pirie Secondary School (JPSS) mural art students, art teachers, along with representation from South Australia Police (SAPOL), Nyrstar, TLAP and the media attended the unveiling of the magnificient mural that the students have worked on throughout 2016.

The project which originally came out of the Qualities Community Action Group’s desire to promote the ‘qualities’ it stands for initiated the project. The action group’s qualities – Respect, Persistence, Responsibility and Confidence are the foundation for the mural’s design.

The project was also intended to grow student’s skills and teamwork. The students and teachers were at times challenged by the project during the course of the year but through perseverence they have created something they can all be proud of.

Additionally the project reflects a community working together that has benefits for all involved.

The mural will be installed onto the northern wall of the Port Pirie SAPOL precinct in January 2017.
The reinvigoration of the SAPOL mural is a joint project in collaboration with TLAP/Nyrstar/Port Pirie Regional Council (PPRC)/SAPOL & JPSS.

PPRC Public Art Committee contributed $1000 & SAPOL $2000.
